Dear
Re: The BUT Group Insurance Plan Update
We write to provide you with an update on recent changes to The BUT Group Insurance Plan.
Earlier this year, Colina Insurance Company Limited purchased Canada Life, the former carrier for BUT Group Insurance Plan. Therefore, Colina is the new carrier for our Group Insurance Plan.
Base on a request from the Union, Colina approved an extension in age for retiree coverage from 75 years to 85 years, effective 1st September 2004. A number of retirees had reached the mandatory termination of coverage age of 75 years, hence our request.
Please be advised that ALL claims must be submitted through the BUT National Secretariat within six months from the date of service. Please remember to conduct all group insurance business through the BUT National Secretariat on Bethel Avenue. Policyholders should not contact Colina directly as this slows down the process.
The payment of insurance premiums in a timely fashion is critical to the success of the plan, therefore, we encourage you to ensure that your account is up-to-date. The BUT has implemented a new policy on terminations for non payment of premiums: Any account that is sixty (60) days in arrears shall be terminated! Please contact Joy Ambrister, Group Insurance Coordinator at The BUT National Secretariat, Bethel Avenue to confirm the status of your account, and to safeguard your group insurance coverage. "It is better to have insurance and not need it than to need insurance and not have it!"
